- The Artisanal Staff
Last Time We Asked: I've heard people say that cheese can help you lose weight. Is that true?
Answer: Cheese has a way of satisfying you better than just about any other food. This is probably the main reason why some people say that cheese can help you lose weight. Cheese does contain fat but it also contains proteins and amino acids, as well as minerals and vitamins. Cheese contains calories, but considering all the other nutrients offered in cheese those calories have a great supporting cast. When we eat a little bit of cheese our bodies recognize those great nutrients and feel sated. In some cultures having a little cheese before the meal has a way of making people eat less. In other cultures the cheese is incorporated into recipes that make the meals more wholesome in smaller portions, in other cultures the cheese is enjoyed mostly at the end of a meal where the cheese eases the digestion of the other foods, and in some places a little morsel of cheese is the main food, just by itself. Great nutrition and fuel in a compact and delicious little bite, it is no wonder that many people think of cheese as a near-perfect food.
