Ethan Kelley is the Head Spirit Sommelier and the beverage director for New York's Brandy Library. Brandy Library is a lounge in the tiny neighborhood of TriBeCa in downtown Manhattan. Brandy Library is a lounge that specializes in aged spirits, namely whiskies and brandies. Since 2007, Ethan Kelley has had a complete devotion to the growth of the collection that lines the walls of this illustrious bar, and has spent countless hours studying and tasting, which can hardly be considered laborious. He has met with dozens of the worlds top distillers, and soaked up every drop of knowledge he could get from life long lessons in the spirits industry.
Ethan grew up in the suburan hamlet of Westfield, New Jersey, and enjoyed the standard suburban fare that came with it. Later he was educated at Elon University in North Carolina earning degrees in Fine Art and Sociology. Following his studies he spent time as a school teacher instructing Kindergarten through eighth grade Art. Upon his departure from education he spent many years in the world of fine art. However, between education and gallery life, Ethan was constantly supporting himself by spending his nights bartending, in all sorts of venues. After 10 years Ethan came to meet the owner of Brandy Library, Flavien Desoblin, eventually with Desoblin's concept and flair for design, and Kelley's penchant for the hard stuff the walls at brandy Library began to fill.
As the bottles came in, so did the guests, Brandy Library is a bustling atmosphere with all walks of life taking time away to savor their tipple of choice. Ethan may often be found in the private party room conducting seminars on any number of spirits, or leading a private tasting through the intricate world of single malt scotches, Bourbons, or brandies.
Today it is hard to pick up a magazine without reading something about this amber hued libation refuge, Brandy Library and Ethan Kelley have been featured in Wine Spectator, The New Yorker, Food & Wine. In addition he has sat on the renowned New York Times Tasting Panel, and has been featured on The Early Show, and High Net Worth, and soon to be Modern Marvels.
