Sauternes Wine and Cheese Pairings
Pairing Cheese with Sauternes - Fine Sauternes, sometimes referred to as the “Nectar of the Gods,” work so well with so many cheese types that there are few that clash at all! Because these wines are especially viscous and sweet, they are best reserved for cheese types that really require that level of sweetness - especially blue cheeses. Also, cheeses with a high salt concentration, such as washed-rind or certain aged cow’s milk cheeses, can make an excellent pair with Sauternes. We have seen people develop an altogether new appreciation for this “nectar” after experiencing them with perfectly-paired cheeses...not to mention what the “nectar” does for the appreciation of the cheeses!
